Ark Nova by Arata Isozaki and Anish Kapoor

Here are some images of an inflatable concert hall designed by architect Arata Isozaki and artist Anish Kapoor to tour parts of Japan affected by the earthquake and tsunami earlier this year. Once complete, the mobile Ark Nova pavilion will stage music and dance performances for victims of the disaster.
The red stretchy skin of the hall is modelled on Kapoor’s orb-like Leviathan sculptures. The venue will seat between 500 and 700 spectators and is designed to enable quick erection and dismantling. The Lucerne Festival in Switzerland initiated the project, alongside music management agency Kajimoto.

Polymorphic kinetic bench

Ten architecture students from Columbia University GSAPP have recently completed Polymorphic, a kinetic installation in the form of a bench.
Utilizing an innovative design and engineering solution inspired by the kinetic action of a see-saw and the reverberating motion of a slinky, the double-sided bench is made of a series of 119 interconnected sections and an interactive balance board. The sections are connected via an inventive pivot and bolt system, allowing the vertical movement of one section to be picked up by others down the line. Together, this motion allows the installation to transform from a series of leveled sections into an undulating form that becomes activated through interaction with its occupants.
The Columbia University GSAPP design group consists of Charlie Able, Alexis Burson, Ivy Chan, Jennifer Chang, Aaron Harris, Trevor Hollyn Taub, Brian Lee, Eliza Montgomery, Vernon Roether, and David Zhai.

How cute are these peephole covers from Cocobohème?

Split Decision Pie Pan

If dessert time at your house sounds like this, “I want apple pie”. “No’ let’s have pecan pie!” … then you’ll need the Split Decision Pie Pan. Why bake one, when you can do two at the same time. The ingenious Split Decision Pie Pan includes two inserts for creating either a traditional full size pie, or two halves.

Theatre in Almonte by Donaire Arquitectos

Visitors enter a theatre in Huelva, Spain, below a bulky concrete cafe that rests upon backlit glass walls of purple and blue. Refreshments for the Theatre in Almonte are served inside this concrete first floor block.
Beyond, a single auditorium surrounded by standard wardrobes and dressing rooms occupies the majority of the two-storey building’s interior. Timber partitions, staircases and benches furnish the lobby, whilst the auditorium has a timber floor. The theatre building is located on the site of a former winery and nestles amongst existing buildings, facing onto a public square.

Barud House by Paritzki & Liani Architects

A bare cliff face is visible through the abutting glass walls of a Jerusalem house. The two-storey house was recently completed by architects Paritzki & Liani, who are based in Tel Aviv.
The L-shaped ground floor of the house is positioned beside the rock face whilst the top floor tunnels into it. The building has a chequered white facade of Jerusalem stone that is exposed on both the exterior and interior walls.
The residence is named Barud House, after the traditional Israeli warning call for an imminent mountain explosion.

Puukkoo - Knife Horlder

I like the magnetic knife holders that IKEA makes, but this knife rack called Puukko from Uusi is just so sophisticated looking.

The frame can be covered with a high quality veneer in your choice of close to a thousand options. The flat frame system is not like a traditional tube design but is hollow and made from a flat material.

Olinda Tea House by Smith + Tracey Architects

The Olinda Tea House by Smith + Tracey Architects in Olinda, Australia, was created for the owners of a 17-acre wholesale flower and foliage farm. They desired to create a tea house to fulfill a retirement dream. Previously on the site, they had a small tea room and nursery but wished for something more dramatic. This new modern pavilion style building with butterfly roof allows for a large tranquil, light-filled space.

Rainbow Wallpaper

Clouds and Rainbows Wallpaper. Yes. Yes. Yes.

LED Bicycle Light

These detachable LED bike lights are great. Stockholm-based Bookman considered the essentials: color block shape, cuved underside, oversized rubber button and a groove for the attaching elastic cord. Three flashing modes: slow, fast and steady. The front light flashes white; the taillight is red.
