Numbers House

This row of prefabricated houses with facades that look like numbers are by Japanese studio Mitsutomo Matsunami Architect & Associates.

Located in Osaka, the project involved taking ready-to build timber houses and reconfiguring the facades so the four units appear as one building. The project was completed in 2007.
Here is more information from Mitsutomo Matsunami:

Numbers House
This is a mass-produced type ready-built house often developed on a large scale, and as such, has the advantage of producing entire rows of housing. In many cases, as the appearance is coordinated at the designation of the owner, rows of houses that do not necessarily match aesthetically are created.
In order to overcome this 4 units are created together at Hozumidai to appear as one building by design, carrying out a strong message to the town. Price competitiveness was maintained by cost effective production of the facade design.

Up comes to life!

Have you ever wondered if equipped with enough balloons, a house could lift off the ground and float into the air like in the movie Up?
The National Geographic Channel has the answer: yes, yes it can.
At dawn this past Saturday morning, March 5, National Geographic Channel and a team of scientists, engineers and two world-class balloon pilots successfully launched a 16′ X 16′ house 18′ tall with 300 8′ colored weather balloons from a private airfield east of Los Angeles, and set a new world record for the largest balloon cluster flight ever attempted. The entire experimental aircraft was more than 10 stories high and reached an altitude of over 10,000 feet and flew for approximately one hour. The record will be part of a new NGC series called How Hard Can It Be? premiering Fall 2011.

Sky Garden House by Guz Architects

Here’s a house with gardens on all three levels designed by Singaporean studio Guz Architects on Santosa Island, Singapore. The Sky Garden House includes a large stone-lined swimming pool that can be viewed from inside the building at basement level through a large glazed window. The curved roof at the top is also covered in grass and affords views of the bay beyond.

Photographs are by Patrick Bingham Hall.
The information below is from the architects:

SKY GARDEN HOUSE
This house is located on a new housing estate on the island of Sentosa adjacent to Singapore. The plots are not large and neighboring buildings are built close to the sides of each house.
Thus our strategy was to build a solid wall to each side neighbor to provide privacy where possible, while creating a central light and stair well which would funnel the sea breeze through the center of the building.
The front and rear of the building meanwhile, terrace back allowing each story to have visual or actual access to greenery.
The intention was to try to allow each roof garden provided a base for the story above allowing the layered effect to make each story feel like it was a single storey dwelling sitting in a garden.as much as we could do in the close confines of Sentosa island and with such a large building!!

LOCATION            Sentosa Island, Singapore
AREA                852 sq. meters
GROSS FLOOR AREA    654 sq. meters
DESIGN ARCHITECT    Guz Wilkinson
PROJECT ARCHITECTS    Caroline Witzke and Szymon GoŸdzikowski

Flashkus - Disposable thumb drive

Products by russian-based design studio art. lebedev often play with digital icons such as a hand or mouse cursor, the computer desktop file symbol or pixelated imagery, translating them into real products.
Though taking a bit of a detour, their latest design still deals with the digital and comes in the form of a disposable thumb drive called 'flashkus'. Made from a cardboard stock material, the sticks come in sets of four, divided by perforations which make them easy to separate and use. The paper surface allows one to hand-write labels directly onto the drives, indicating what is stored on the key. They come in 4GB, 8GB or 16GB storage capacities
